The UCLA Nathanson Family Resilience Center (NFRC) Director, Dr. Patricia Lester, met with Congresswoman Grace Napolitano yesterday in El Monte, CA to discuss the NFRC’s available resources for Veterans in the Los Angeles Area.  Some of the resources highlighted in the presentation were FOCUS (Families OverComing Under Stress) Family Resilience Training, The Welcome Back Veterans Program, and Operation PurpleTM Family Retreats. This week,  the U.S. Department of Defense in collaboration with the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs launched a new parenting resource for military families. Designed as an inclusive online course, parents have access to a variety of tools including video interviews from real families, interactive parenting activities, and printable tip sheets. The UCLA Nathanson Family Resilience Center is pleased to announce that its Strategies for Enhancing Early Developmental Success (SEEDS) Program was awarded an Early Childhood Reading Grant from Target. The SEEDS Program serves families with young children (0 to 5 years old) in the Los Angeles county child welfare system. This grant will directly benefit families enrolled in the SEEDS for School Readiness (SEEDS-SR) Program. NFRC’s Associate Director of Training, Dr. Ediza Garcia is scheduled to present at this week’s Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention and Early Intervention Summit in Sacramento, CA.

UCLA NFRC Director, Dr. Patricia Lester, will present on October 15th as part of the Semel Institute at UCLA Psychiatry Grand Rounds, a weekly educational conference that provides attendees with cutting-edge information about the clinical neurosciences, human behavior, and mental health care. The presentation will cover the impact of PTSD on the family.

The UCLA Nathanson Family Resilience Center (NFRC) is pleased to announce a partnership with Habitat for Humanity San Fernando/Santa Clarita Valley and their Habitat for Heroes Program. The Habitat for Heroes Community project will provide housing for Veteran families in the Santa Clarita Valley and San Fernando Valley in collaboration with the California Department of Veteran Affairs.
