Sheila is a clinical psychology doctoral student from the University of California, Santa Barbara. Prior to entering her doctoral program, she received her Master’s in Social Welfare from the University of California, Los Angeles with a concentration in Mental Health Practice with Individuals, Families, and Groups. Sheila’s research interests include understanding the impact of trauma on mental health, identifying risk and resilience factors, and developing and evaluating interventions to meet the needs of vulnerable populations. Her previous research focused on the trauma of experiencing interpersonal and institutional discrimination and the impact that it has had on ethnic minorities’ functioning across social, emotional, and academic domains. After graduation in May 2017, Sheila hopes to continue conducting research on diverse populations and providing accessible, quality psychotherapeutic services to overlooked communities.
