Dr. Patricia Lester, Director of the NFRC and the Division of Population Behavioral Health, will serve on the Pritzker Center for Strengthening Children and Families leadership team. The new Pritzker Center will focus on research, prevention, and intervention to empower foster caregivers and adoptive families with the skills and resources they need to create strong family dynamics. The NFRC’s Mary Fortson-Harwell PhD, LCSW and the UCLA / VA Veteran Family Wellness Center’s Angel Barrios, AMFT gave a presentation at Homes4Families on Friday, March 2 about the specific and unique needs of military and veteran families. NFRC Post Doctoral Scholar and Clinical Instructor Ruth Ellingsen, PhD gave a UCLA Tarjan Center lecture entitled “Resilient Parenting of Children at Developmental Risk” on Wednesday, February 21 at the 300 Medical Plaza. Dr. Ellingsen discussed the promotion of positive parenting skills, including risk factors and protective factors in the face of developmental vulnerability. The NFRC’s Director of Training and Intervention Development and Director of the Family Development Project, Catherine Mogil, PsyD, attended the Sesame Street for Military Families Advisory Meeting focused on military caregivers. The UCLA/VA Veteran Family Wellness Center celebrated their opening day on Monday, November 27, 2017 at their West Los Angeles VA Campus Rose Garden. Leaders from UCLA and the VA highlighted the center’s innovative, family-centered programs and discussed their resources with opening day attendees. Congressman Ted W.
